Hypothermic Half-Marathon
It took me a while to post, but here are some pics. I finished in 2:48:13 in an event which started out well below zero and ended up being toasty much closer to the zero degree mark. My training paid off but the fact that I compressed the training period to make this event showed up in a negative way nearer the finish. I know this because in the last half of the event I started to go much faster, then with about 1/3 of the distance left my joints started to break down so I had to slow down. I know I have the muscular strength and cardio-vascular capacity to go really fast, but my joints are not up to snuff yet. That is because I am overweight (by 35 pounds) and I have only been running for a year. I could have done much better with better training and I am now looking forward to training over a longer period. But I finished faster than my goal of 2:50:00 that I aimed for anyway. I will be running a lot of 5k and 10k races, and will put off the ING marathon until next year.
