173.6 and counting…
I have run 173.6 miles since Jan 1st, and countless miles on the stationary bike and elliptical machines. I have also begun to record my swimming efforts. I am using a snorkel and mask because I have never been able to swim before. This Tuesday I plan on just using a pair of goggles because I think I may have finally clued into the breathing thing. The key is to wait until your head is out of the water before you take a breath! Who would have thought? Anyway I do 42 laps on a 25 meter pool so I have recorded a total of 2.1 kilometers so far. Before that, I have been practicing by just walking along the bottom while doing the front crawl and practicing breathing in neck deep water. That way I could concentrate on the movements rather than simply not drowning. I gradually added a few meters actually swimming. I seem to be able to go farther before choking on water every time I try it. Last Tuesday I actually made it half way across the pool! This Tuesday, I will try to do all 42 laps without a snorkel though I will have to stop and rest. Mind you, all this makes me look like an idiot in the pool but what the heck, I have to learn somehow! Yesterday I pulled out my real bike for the first time this year, it was a short but great ride! Yahoo! yahoo? — we used to say that to express surprised joy, now some company has used it as their own (I would really like to bash them for that, but I won’t). Today everybody says “woohoo” after the Simpsons TV show popularized it. Will there someday be a company call woohoo.com? Probably already is…–that’s a switch!
