Wednesday and Thursday…
Tomorrow is Wednesday and it is a total rest day. Thursday I will be going to West Edmonton Mall water park to climb really high stairs a lot and then slide down water slides in the wave pool. That will be quite like doing hill work, I think. Should be fun. Even though I have lived here since before West Edmonton Mall was a concept on someone’s drawing board, I have never used its water park. (Note added July 2007, the trip to WEM never happened).
Hydration pack update…
My second trial with the Sierra Hydration pack turned out well with the bite valve bitter taste issue resolved. I guess cleaning it by soaking it in soap and baking soda really helped. The only other tweak I can think of is to put one of those small velcro straps near the end of the bite valve so I can latch it near my opposite shoulder for easier access during a ride, plus if the bite valve doesn’t close properly, the water won’t leak out because the bite valve elevation will be higher than the outlet/water level on the bladder. This has happened a few times, but nothing serious. Jo from Toronto has told me about adding ice cubes to the pack rather than trying to freeze a little water in the pack the night before your ride. My little experiment of freezing water in the pack worked well enough, … Continue reading

Today’s swim and some new toys…
Well today I managed my usual 2 miles (or 3.2 km) on an indoor track wondering if I really should since it was so near to my bike ride yesterday, but it was all good. I am still a little tight from the ride, but I managed to do 2 miles at a pace of 10:30 which for me is not bad. Two miles is about 15 laps so I walked two laps as warm-up then I walked one lap as cool-down. So I did 18 laps, but I don’t count the warm-up/cool-down laps as work for training record purposes. After that I stretched out a bit which I find is best for speeding your recovery. Then I went and swam 1 km. I did better this week. I had no problems swimming the front crawl for one lap and I actually almost did two whole laps without stopping (I … Continue reading
