Good news and bad news…
The good news is that my swimmimg is improving. The bad news is that I can no longer ignore a certain recurring “injury”. Did 3.2 km today at the indoor track. I was slower than last week with a pace of 11 mins per mile. I know it is confusing to mix two measurement systems. Swam 1 km again after and did much better, doing two laps in a row multiple times. Made a doctors appointment to look at an old problem wherein something is wrong with my right big toe joint and the associated instep of my right foot. This is the first step in what I hope is a short healing process. Diagnosis is the biggest problem. Wish me luck. I compared left and right today and I can plainly see that where the right big toe joint connecting to the foot is very swollen and the blood … Continue reading

40 km bike ride…
Nice day, nice weather, hardly any wind. 40.17 km with Marilyn today at an easy pace of 17.5 KPH. First time out with my new cheap toe clips so I decided to take it easy. Clips work great, but I don’t like the way they drag on the ground if you take your foot out of them (the pedals are now top-heavy so they often rotate clips-down if you take your foot out of them. I also don’t like the fact that I can’t shift my foot forward or around too much because of the closed toe cage. The next ones I buy will be open toed cages if I can get them. But the $10.00 investment was worth it because I got to try them without having to spend much. I like them; they will be permanent, but I will definitely upgrade them soon. I will be using them … Continue reading

4 km today…
Marilyn and I just about got heat stroke today. Well, no, it was far from that, but still we got too hot to continue. We planned on doing 10 km today, 5 of which are uphill and 5 downhill because it just happens to be a 1 km hill. Unfortunately we could only do 4 km because we got too late a start and the day was too hot AND the route was 100% in the hot blazing sun with absolutely no shade on black asphalt. Man, I never had such a problem with heat before, probably because I have never run in hot conditions before. Hopefully I will be getting better acclimated to the heat as I train for the 5peaks trail run this July 15th. Our intended “hill training” at WEM did not happen as planned, we postponed it for another day. That’s because we got sidetracked trying … Continue reading
