7 km hike with full packs and a coyote…

It was raining very hard again today so we put on our wetskins and packs and hiked the trails anyway. Very muddy and impossibly slippery bentonite clay hills so we were glad we brought our ski poles for balance. I was in the lead and up ahead a coyote appeared around a bend and running fast it almost ran into me. The coyote was as surprised to see me as I was to see it! The coyote braked hard with all fours, slidding a bit in on the muddy trail, turned tail and ran back the way it came!
We saw few people in the river valley; at the campground they were all hiding inside their RV’s. At the golf course there was some sort of event and quite a few golfers out in the rain.
We got a chance to test our MEC waterproof pack covers and they performed great. The only problem is you can’t get at anything in your pack without taking the cover off.
Training for the West Coast Trail. We want it wet, heavy, and difficult for our training.
