Back on track and training begins once again…
by Administrator ~ November 26th, 2006. Filed under: Training Runs.I decided to wait until the heat of the day to run so I did not start until after noon. Temperature was -25 degrees C and no wind chill to speak of. The crunch of the snow under my feet was – how should I describe it – like a squeaky clean sound. Squeak squeak squeak went my feet as the snow squealed in protest under my feet.
Anyway I was pretty cold at the start even though I felt over-dressed. It is an interesting exercise trying to maintain just the right pace so that you don’t freeze, yet you don’t get too wet so that when you slow down you turn into an icicle. My gear was basically water resistant so that moisture does not vent out. I had to unzip or unbutton gear, take off gloves, hat to keep cool enough, but I still got pretty wet. Like last year when I ran in the winter I will have to find just the right combo of clothing so I can be safer during the really long runs of 10 to 20 km.
The air was so cold and dense that car exhaust and diesel exhaust just hung around me; I almost died when they passed me. There were a couple of trucks that were hauling round bales to a local farm. I did not enjoy that aspect.
I have to really discipline myself and finish my WCT blog today so I can post other things. After I finish the blog I will post a short 30 second video of the beginning of my run in the snow.
