I had a great run today…

The temperature was very warm, about -5 degrees. I ran 11 km in 1:21:46 for a 7:26 pace. I felt really good; it was a good effort. It was hard doing the 2.5 km trail part of the loop because the snow was against me. For every step, the foot I landed on slid back about 2 inches in spite of my yaktrax.

So when I came out of the trail loop and back on to the road I was a few minutes behind in my pace goal. I had to run really fast to make up for it but I did it. In the last two km I noticed a figure walking down the road with a dog. The dog turned out to be a large beast that looked like a Rotwieller. I passed them with about one and a quarter km to go and the figure turned out to be a young woman. I had to be at the 1 km mark at a certain time to meet my pace goals and I was running very fast at that point. She was wearing a toque and winter gear of course and as she held her dog by the side of the road I noticed she was the spitting image of my daughter Morgan! She said “hello, how’s it going,” or something like that and I grunted a reply on my way by. I remember being astonished because I knew it couldn’t be her yet even her voice was identical to hers. Weird stuff. I almost stopped in my tracks. I’ve never seen her before and I’ve been running that route for years. I’m really glad she had a handle on that huge Rotwieller!

Now I get to rest from running for the next two days. My next run is Wednesday. I might try for 7 km then. Tuesday is a break since our karate class has been bumped in favor of a school Christmas concert of some sort, so that is a pleasant break. It will give me a chance to practice at home.

Cutting down my running to three times a week seems to be agreeing with me. I get more healing time and I seem to perform better. Perhaps my calf injury was a blessing in disguise! Life sure can be be strange sometimes.
