“Democrats said when the fleet of gas-saving vehicles are eventually widely on the road, the fuel economy requirements will save motorists $700 US to $1,000 US a year in fuel costs.”
This relates to the new energy bill where higher fuel efficiency standards come into effect. It would “…will boost mileage by 40 per cent from 25 miles per gallon to an average of 35 miles per gallon — around 6.7 litres per 100 kilometres.”
What do I think? I approve of any efficiency increase and of course any environmental benefits to come from that, but I really hate when these politicians bullshit us by telling us it will save us money. It won’t save us money at all. First of all, they will simply charge more for the fuel we do use, in fact, probably a lot more. Secondly, even if we did see cheaper fuel, we would simply drive more to use it up. The net effect is zero.
We need to move away from fossil fuels, period.

The entire article is ridiculous. The Americans are going to “improve” fuel economy? We already drive cars that have a better fuel economy than the projected goals. I guess they must be talking about fuel guzzling hummers or something.
Here’s another quote: “Bush called on Americans to reduce gasoline use in the U.S. by 20 per cent in the next 10 years.”
What? So what? Do you think that suddenly everyone will listen and say “Oh gee, we never thought of that! Let’s not drive on weekends.” Duh! I call on them to eliminate poverty. Anyone can say anything, and this article is designed, (yes, designed) to give the appearance that the powers that be are actually doing something about it. They are not.
Here’s another quote:
“‘With the stroke of pen we set America on a path to save four million barrels of oil per day by 2030. That’s twice the amount of oil we import from the Persian Gulf alone,’ said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.”
Hello? By the year 2030, we’ll be lucky to have four million barrels of oil on the entire planet! 2030? Give me a break, by that time our planet will be a charred corpse if we don’t do better than that. “With the stroke of a pen…”??? Give me a break! Do you think you have a magic pen or something?
The facts are that the greedy military/industrial complex is denying the entire rest of the planet an equal opportunity to have a western standard of living. The governments of the world don’t have a clue what to do about it. That’s because they are helpless and under the stern control of a military/industrial elite whose activities and power are not limited by national boundaries.
This powerful group wants to keep the rest of the world in abject poverty. Can you image what would happen if one billion people in India, and 2.5 billion Chinese suddenly could get the cars and lifestyle similar to ours? Do you think the planet could sustain that for even a year? If they could do that, it would cause the western world to lose their geopolitical power base forever and hand it to the rest of the world. These guys love their power and they just can’t give up control. What dictator has ever given up power and control once they got it? Well it’s the same with this group of dictators. These ideas are not mine, but many people hold them. See this link for some really far-out stuff:
Some people believe we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan to help those people, and to fight terrorism. I think this is just a convenient side benefit of the real reason for these wars. The real reason is to protect the interests of Big Oil, and to test military hardware and tactics in a real situation. You don’t see us sending troops to Africa. Or to Columbia, or Thailand, or anywhere else. What’s the difference? The difference is OIL. Saddam Hussein embroiled himself in sanctions that essentially cut off one of the world’s largest oil producers from supplying America with oil. America began starving for that oil, so they invented an excuse to invade, remove Saddam, and get the oil flowing again. They never did find those weapons of mass destruction, did they?
