Run 2, 2008

Today I ran 7 km at a 7:24 pace. I noticed a bit of the coil spring on my Yaktrax was broken. Near the heel, one coil had broken off, exposing a sharp bit of the coil. The interesting thing is that the other Yaktrax has exactly the same break. It is a single turn of the coil that has broken off and slid down the rubber on each shoe. It is the part of the coil that is closed, to prevent the coil from ending in a sharp bit of wire. It seems to be made of spring steel, perhaps stainless, I am not sure. Now that particular coil ends in a sharp point of unclosed wire. I may have to remove the sharp point as best I can by sanding it or something. I am afraid of trying to close the coil because it might just break rather … Continue reading

Why is it snowing so hard in the maritimes?

Here is a theory based entirely on electrical short circuits in my brain caused by cosmic rays tearing through it, leaving a trail of destroyed brain cells in their wake: Have you ever heard that if the arctic ice cap melts, it will cause Britain and Europe to freeze? If not, the first thing you have to know is that the Gulf Stream keeps Britain and Europe from freezing. This is because the warm surface waters that comprise the Gulf Stream flow from the Caribbean area to the North Atlantic Ocean where it swings around and crashes into Europe, keeping Europe warmer than it would otherwise be as dictated by Europe’s northerly latitudes. These warm waters flow along the surface because they are less dense (although much saltier) waters compared to the much colder, less saline waters that flow south from the arctic. Britain is subject to so much fog … Continue reading

Run 1, 2008

Today’s first run of the year was 7 km at a 7:25 pace. Minus 7 degrees C and partly sunny. Just like my disposition. Ha ha. Looks like a promising year ahead. But I have to make it happen.

Success can be yours!

It’s a New Year! What choices will you make? What will you do differently? How will you make a positive impact this year? What will you do to help save our world? Will you be fit and healthy enough to make an impact? Whatever you choose to do, I hope you will be wildly successful at it. These questions are rhetorical. But feel free to think about them.
