Bike shakedown…

Well, I still feel pretty crappy today what with having to blow my nose every three minutes and being just sort of run down from the lingering flu/cold or whatever the hell I’ve just gone through. I did not go to karate this morning but Marilyn did.

All of my bits are sore. My karate bits are sore and bruised from practice (yes, I still practice outside of classes). My running bits are sore from running. My nose bits are sore from blowing. My brain bits are sore from thinking about work and whatever. And my bum bits are sore from today’s shakedown ride. And to top it all off, the first thing that happened to me the first time I jumped on my new bike for the very first shakedown ride was that I fell over sideways flat on my face after coasting maybe three feet down a wee incline, bruising my knee. If anyone out there knows of any bits I have neglected please comment ASAP so I can make them sore too.

I did not go very far today. I only went 9 km with MM to test out our new bikes. It turns out I need to adjust my seat backwards a bit. Other than that, it all seems good. The shifters work like a dream come true. I can shift from 1:1 through 1:8 then 2:1 through 2:8, and finally 3:1 through 3:8 without any effort or technical mechanical knowledge. I can’t shift from 3:8 to 1:1 for example because I have to get there in increments. But otherwise, I can now focus on riding rather than shifting. I love it.

Stopped briefly to examine a deceased raptor in the ditch probably got hit by a car. The skull was missing so I could not tell what kind it was, however the feathers indicated it was probably an owl. Then went home and had a luxurious BBQ’d turkey breast, wine and some port and generally felt like the day had been a good one and that life was good.

Decided what we needed in terms of accessories for our bikes. And I have to transfer my digital odometer/speedometer socket from my old bike to my new one, calibrate it and be done with that. Now I have to just chill out and maybe go to bed because I have to go to work tomorrow, then come home and run a 17 km.

Life is good!
