My run began at 9 AM in the pouring rain. It rained hard and continuously until about the 16 km mark. I got wet. I suppose if I were running in the city I could always zip into the local retailers and find a bathroom somewhere but I don’t have that luxury in the country. Here, we have what are known as “woods”.
Does a runner **** in the woods? Runners…yeah, we’re different. It was either that or in the middle of the road. What would YOU do?
So I guess I lost two minutes there. Final time was 2:36:18 for a 7:27 pace. I wore my hydration pack today because I don’t really know of any other way I can carry enough water to stay hydrated. I know some of my running friends have placed caches along their routes in the past but I think I prefer to be as self-sufficient as possible. On the other hand, there are always water/aid stations every few kilometers in a race so I guess that caching or having a friend bring you water at intervals is no different. Of course, one would have to have friends for that. Ha ha.
I never think I will be able to finish a run in the allotted time. I don’t know why that is. Maybe because last run I could barely finish on pace so next run is even longer so how could I possibly finish at the same pace as last time? Strangely enough, by the time the next run happens I am not only rested, but I am just a wee bit fitter. (That’s FITTER not FATTER).
I guess the increase effort/distance/speed by only 10% per week rule really does work. My next long run is a rest week so I am only doing 17 km on that one. But the week after I have to do a 23 km long run. I don’t think I can do it. There is no way I can finish that distance on pace.
