Well, I don’t. What is becoming clear is how much I don’t know and what should I do about it. The answer is practice. I know what to practice. And although I have attended only 46 lessons, I have practiced a lot on my own. But at least I am getting better and quickly too. What still eludes me is Yakushoku and sparring.
I am finding it hard to keep up though. I think I am physically maxed out. I am not finding a lot of time for practice between classes. Karate is very hard on every muscle in my body and also on my knee and ankle joints. Add marathon training and biking into the mix and you’ve got one tired leppad!
I don’t have enough time to recover between workouts so I have canceled plans to attend more karate classes in the city and I am not putting much effort into the classes either. In other words, I am cheating by attending karate classes anyway, but not putting in a huge effort in order to heal up from my last workout.
Yesterday’s karate class is a case in point. Sunday I ran 21 km at a 7:27 pace without a walk break so I was pretty sore still Tuesday night for karate class, not to mention that I was still recovering from muscle exhaustion caused by last Saturday’s karate class where I really stressed out my knees doing deep knee dips as part of a warm up.
Things aren’t going to get any better because my running distances are only going to increase. This Saturday there is no karate class in Devon because of the annual “Devon Days” celebration so that is a relief and a chance to heal up. But we may go to Elmwood in Edmonton tomorrow so as not to miss a class, who can say?
And after today’s run, I only have an 8 km on Friday before I start a rest week on Sunday. Sunday I only have to run 17 km which is a piece of cake.
