Run 46, 2008

Another good run today and a PR too as I ran on the indoor track 8 km in 49:20 for a 6:10 pace. I am a little disappointed to fall short of my 6 minute goal but still happy to have run so quickly. My plan was to really push myself today in an effort to improve…well…everything, speed, endurance, and oxygen capacity.

I think I succeeded. That would mean I can run a 10 km in 61 minutes and 40 seconds! I haven’t but I’m sure going to try except my ultimate goal is to run a 10 km in under an hour. I will succeed. This year. It’s not really fast compared to younger runners, but it’s pretty respectable for a 55 year old geezer like me!

By the way my VO2 max as calculated using THIS LINK and today’s data is 30.7 which is a joke. According to the explanation, this means I am “poor” with respect to the “general population”. That is such a load of bullshit. What the chart really means is that I am poor with respect to world class athletes who have set world records for speed and endurance in their respective age groups.

Unless I’m wrong. Maybe if you take a thousand people at random from my age group they could all put me to shame and run circles around me. I don’t think so. I wonder how many of them could even stay on their feet after walking 1 km let alone the 42 km I am about to do or the 21 km I have done.

Clearly, I am not an elite athlete, but I am an athlete and a darn good one for my age.
