Karate 46

After my race Saturday morning in Devon I rushed off to join a Kobudo class in Devon. There were just brown, black, and higher belts there so Marilyn (the only lonely orange belt) was happy to see me. She gave me my Tonfa sticks (which I irreverently refer to as “tofu sticks”) and I tried to catch up as best I could. The handles are a bit loose and I have to glue them up a bit.

The 2 hours I missed were all about the Bo, which is a wooden staff. Anyway, I was very warmed up when I joined the class and so had no problem doing push ups. You see, if anyone dropped their Tonfa, the punishment was that you had to do push ups. It is an incentive to grip your weapon properly and not drop it. I dropped mine about three times. But I wasn’t the only one.

They were moving really fast (maybe because they were all black belts)? But at least we got an idea, and we were helped by the Sempai through the katas, even though we were always way behind the others.

The rest of my comments and a link to the web site can be found in my previous “Run 53″ post.
