Run 57, 2008
by Administrator ~ June 27th, 2008. Filed under: Training Notes, Training Runs.I kept running towards them, thinking they would run off into the bush but they did not. They stopped, turned toward me very aggressively and raised their fur, hissing and growling at me. I had to stop at that point about 50 or so feet from them because they were not backing down. When they resumed their worried flight down the road, I slowed down so as to not catch up with them.
Several times I had to stop and wait for them because they must have felt they could not outrun this threat (that is, me), and they had no choice but to make a stand against my apparent aggression. I did not want to press them too hard since they are pretty dangerous critters. I tried to take a few pictures of the scene using my crappy cell phone camera, but I think they are typical wildlife shots of a couple of indistinct specks on the road.
I will be looking at these pictures in more detail on my computer and post them here if they are worth it.
Anyway this scenario of me running and them running away, stopping and mock charging me happened 5 or 6 times over about 500 meters until finally they veered off into the bush. So I lost a good 5 minutes or so. But it was worth it, they were so cool! Beautiful creatures, probably the largest member of the weasel family after wolverines.
