I won’t be trying them out until Friday’s 11 km tempo run and not in a long run until my 32 km this Sunday. Wednesday I will probably run indoors at the Tri-Leisure Centre.
I bought a Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750 Gb External Drive today for my personal and company backups. I had sold one to a client and liked it so much I had to have one. It comes with awesome, no-brainer backup software that doesn’t cripple your system like Norton does. Love it. Except it did not include an E-sata cable so I need to get one. In the meantime I am using firewire.
Tomorrow is our first karate class after the break and we will be using the Tonfa and Bo weapons. Of course, in spite of our best intentions, we did absolutely nothing in the way of practice during the break. Classes have moved for the summer to the Devon Community Centre.
We went to see “As You Like It” at the Shakespeare Festival in Hawrelak Park starring the Free Will Players. We go every summer because it is always a great show. We need to go and see Richard III either this Thursday or next Wednesday depending on if we feel we need to catch the extra karate class in Edmonton on Thursday.
I have pretty much finished building my new computer system. I am just waiting for a small little back ordered bling part that will give some interesting UV lighting effects. I am not really happy with my Northbridge and Southbridge temperatures though and so some day down the road I want to switch to a TEC powered water cooling system. I can’t really overclock my system too much right now because the Northbridge is the limiting factor in that it gets too hot. There is no way to cool it down any more without going to a water cooling solution. I don’t really know what a dangerous temperature is, but I do know that the hotter a chip runs, the shorter will be it’s life. I’ve heard that excessive heat causes premature silicon migration, but I don’t know really. Right now I as I write this my Motherboard is at 36 C, my Northbridge at 59 C, my Southbridge at 46 C and my CPU at 22 C as reported by PC Probe. If I run a CPU/Graphics intensive game, my Northbridge temperatures can climb by 15 degrees C, 30 degrees if I overclock too aggressively, and I think that is too hot. I have a pair of fan controllers and I stuck the thermistors where I could, as best I as I could. They are reporting my Northbridge as at 49.1 C and 46.7 C for the Southbridge, and my CPU is at 29.5 C (from a thermistor stuck exactly on top of the Noctua CPU cooling block). Other than that, so far I am quite happy with my Visa Ultimate 64 bit system.
Rod has the server up and running but his upload speeds are pretty slow. Nevertheless, I am trying to upload and install Quickbooks and related company files so I can access them from the United States in a reliable way. I can’t really trust my system to stay up and running with our unreliable power system here in the country.
I am considering creating a new category for posts relating to one of my passionate hobbies which is science versus creationism as well as my main scientific interest related to my degree which is in Geology, but also it will be very interdisciplinary. I am not sure how I will handle the posts. Maybe there is a way to just post a link and people can go there and read them if they want BECAUSE some readers might find my views pretty threatening and offensive, especially the dogmatic religious type people.
I already have a category called “All Things Weird” which contain silly posts that are tongue-in cheek, possibly satirically humorous, and at the same time containing hidden grains of truth. Some of these posts attack other people, institutions, beliefs, and cultures in a personal way. I want to deliberately provoke, insult, entertain, and annoy people in this category. I might call a group “nothing but a bunch of idiots”, but I don’t really believe that. It’s just fun to do from time to time and I certainly take my own share of abuse too.
So I plan on creating a new category, but I want to be serious about the essays I write. But I have a very hard time being serious about anything…I guess we will see what I will write about.
