Run 60, 2008

by Administrator ~ July 9th, 2008. Filed under: Training Notes, Training Runs.

I went out on the road today to try out my new pair of Mizuno Waverider 10’s. I ran 11 km at a 6:58 pace (1:16:35 total). The run went well.

Friday I need to do another 11 km but I need to run it at an 8 minute pace because that’s how fast (or slow) I want to run the 32 km on Sunday.

I found out that the distances I’ve recorded for the Bird Sanctuary route, which I have run multiple loops of countless times was not accurate. It is actually 150 meters longer than I thought. 150 meters is not much unless you are running 3 or 4 or more loops then it becomes significant. So all the distance I’ve recorded for that loop are shorter and the times are slower than I thought. I’ve been running that loop once a week for months now so I guess that’s cool. I won’t be changing any records, in fact, I plan on ignoring the difference and calling it good. I would feel differently if I found out the route was shorter though, that would suck big time.

Anyway, I got the real distance using my bike computer, which I know to be accurate to plus or minus 2 meters, if you’re careful not to spin the front wheel off the ground.

I also found out a really cool thing about Sensei Jordon yesterday. He plans on running the Death Race solo in Grande Cache! I forget if I told him I also was planning to run it but not this year. I’ll have to ask him next time I see him what his running routine is like, and how he might be training for it. Sensei Jordon is quite young relative to me so he might not be too worried about training, but at my age and seeing how I am a little arthritic and take such a long time to heal, I have to worry a whole lot about proper training methods. Of course, unless I can lose at least 30 pounds, I can forget about Grande Cache. But it is a hope.
