More comments on my first marathon…

by Administrator ~ August 19th, 2008. Filed under: Race Reports, Training Notes, Training Runs.

Rather than edit my original post and force people to read the whole thing over and over again (like THAT would happen, ha ha), I’ll just add a few comments as I think of them. Pictures will be coming later today.

I mentioned that I was self-sufficient and used a hydration pack. I want to add that I don’t like using a hydration pack simply because of the added burden. But I had to train with one because I could not carry enough water otherwise during my long training runs in the country where there are no water stations.

Also, I need to train during my long runs (20 km and over) with one because of my Death Race aspirations in 2010. But for the Death Race I will probably switch to a larger 3 liter bladder. And I did not want to change anything during the marathon.

The other thing I want to comment on concerns my recovery. The blisters/foot calluses are healing well. I guess they were just made hypersensitive by the water in my shoes. Yesterday I was pretty much a cripple but today the swelling has gone down and I am just deliciously sore. At least I can move again. I am not sure I can do much in Karate tonight. But I will show up anyway.

It was a great experience and I will do it again.
