Run 73, 2008

Again I ran into trouble at the start of my 11 km today with low blood sugar. I drank some Gatorade and by km 5 - I was back to normal. The problem is that I am just eating a high fiber flax and bran cereal with skim milk in the morning for breakfast (about 300 calories and 19 grams of fiber). But I am trained to eat a power bar (300 calories) and two toast with almond butter before a long training run of over 20 km. So I think my body is expecting a huge calorie and sugar rush every time I run now, even though I don’t need it for a short 11 km run. I think I’ll eventually re-program my body to avoid that. Also, around km 6 my left knee began popping again. This is something I haven’t got a clue about, and I have decided to ignore it until it goes away on its own.

In spite of these minor mishaps, I ran it in 1:20:24 for a 7:18 pace (an 11:45 mile). Not too shabby for an old timer like me…
