Fleeing from the Dawn of the Living Dead…
I was downtown Edmonton at Enbridge Pipelines, disconnecting and bagging computers today pending a move and I am lucky to have gotten out of there alive! Everyone on the floor was a zombie, with hatchet marks and other boils and gross festering wounds on their faces just like the human flesh eating dead zombies in the Dawn of the Dead. It was totally Hollywood special effects makeup that looked really real. They did not attack me, possibly because I look really bad? Do I look like one of them? God, how ugly do I look? Of course, they only eat human flesh. But if that’s true, why were they eating cake? At any rate, not one of them tried to gnaw on any of my limbs, so I got out of there alive and uninjured.

Run 89, 2008 – I just don’t get it…
I considered running again today and almost canceled because my knee wasn’t feeling all that great. But then I decided that maybe I’d slap a knee brace on like last time only this time I would go slow. Turns out I had a great 11 km run with a 6:42 pace. I just don’t get it. I ran it in 1:15:07 and nary had a knee twinge. Still, I monitored it very closely and tried to slow down. But I was feeling so strong I just couldn’t help myself and pushed a lot faster than I promised myself I would do. I ran after work today, starting around 5 PM and getting back before dark. I just don’t get why my knee did not swell up and pack it in again. It couldn’t be because I began stretching my IT band again, because I only started a few days ago. … Continue reading

Run 88, 2008 …my IT band is still on strike…
Another 11 km which started out famously at a 6:40 pace until km 6 then I completely fell aprt in spite of the fact that I was wearing a knee brace. It is very discouraging, especially after a week break from running. My doctor’s appointment is not until Nov. 10th, but I will just have to be patient because I really need professional help with this one. I was so happy when I began running faster, almost reaching my goal of a sub hour ten kilometer run. Now I am stonewalled. I’m going to have to slow down and take it easy for God knows how long. It’s the same kind of rotten feeling you get when you’re late for work and you’ve just missed the bus. Now I have to wait for the next one. Somehow, I’ll get through this and I’ll be back, stronger than ever. Sigh.

Points to Ponder About the Flood…
This is the title of another article I feel I could comment on. The web site is: www.drdino.com/articles.php?spec=77/ and the author is Dr. Kent Hovind of the Creation Science Evangelism web site. I will be quoting from the article and trying my best to comment on it, but it will be hard for me because, as you all must know by now, I am a moron. A moron with an agenda. Note that the numbers in the quotes are from Hovind’s own list, so if you see a number missing, it’s because I did not quote that particular one. The arguments presented by Hovind are typically believed by most creationists. The author lists his own brief comments in a numbered list so I will start with the first quote from the author: 1. Over 250 Flood legends from all parts of the world have been found. Most have similarities to … Continue reading

Karate 66 – Training for the Devon Tournament
I just realized something that kind of irritates me. In fact, it irritates me to no end but there’s nothing I can do about it. I won’t be at next Tuesday’s karate class because months ago we bought season’s tickets for the Edmonton Opera and we are going to the first one this Tuesday night. We tried to change our seats for Thursday nights instead but couldn’t. So. In today’s class we practiced our ippon kumites and then we split the class and some practiced with the Bo while I elected to practice some team kata for the first time. I’ve never tried team kata before. It was a lot of fun, but we weren’t that good at it. But not bad for the first try. We did Itosu Rohai Shodan. There were three of us, a blue belt, a brown belt, and my orange belt. For some strange reason, … Continue reading

Karate 65
Tonight’s class was preparation for the katas in the upcoming tournament but no sparring. Marilyn crawled back from the dead and managed to stick it out in class after a nasty bout with the flu but she was still a snotty nosed little brat, ha ha! We’ll see if she reads my blog or not! Actually, once when I asked her, “Don’t you ever read my blog?” she replied, “I don’t have to read it, I live it!” I don’t talk much, I guess. Anyway, Marilyn and I learned a new kata today thanks to Sensei Troy who showed us Pinan Sandan. We don’t need to know it for our next grading but it was still really nice to learn another kata, especially since it is short and introduces a few new techniques. I am also really happy that we have more students than before, even if some of them … Continue reading

Update on my current physical and mental condition…
My running has improved a whole lot but I am currently “hamstrung” by an unknown knee problem. I have an appointment to have it checked out Nov. 10th. This is to rule out anything serious and maybe to get a physio referral. I am quite sure that it is an IT band problem. I think it is causing my knee to not track properly which leads to popping and swelling after the first few kilometers. I have not been paying attention to proper stretching in that area. The stretches I do in karate don’t touch this area enough to make a difference. Also possibly contributing to the problem is the road surface. I have been running on one side of the canted road, which puts stress on that side of my body. I have to start running in the center to avoid the slope. Trail running, although also often canted, … Continue reading
