Karate 65

Tonight’s class was preparation for the katas in the upcoming tournament but no sparring. Marilyn crawled back from the dead and managed to stick it out in class after a nasty bout with the flu but she was still a snotty nosed little brat, ha ha! We’ll see if she reads my blog or not! Actually, once when I asked her, “Don’t you ever read my blog?” she replied, “I don’t have to read it, I live it!” I don’t talk much, I guess. Anyway, Marilyn and I learned a new kata today thanks to Sensei Troy who showed us Pinan Sandan. We don’t need to know it for our next grading but it was still really nice to learn another kata, especially since it is short and introduces a few new techniques. Update on my current physical and mental condition…

My running has improved a whole lot but I am currently “hamstrung” by an unknown knee problem. I have an appointment to have it checked out Nov. 10th. This is to rule out anything serious and maybe to get a physio referral. I am quite sure that it is an IT band problem. I think it is causing my knee to not track properly which leads to popping and swelling after the first few kilometers. I have not been paying attention to proper stretching in that area. The stretches I do in karate don’t touch this area enough to make a difference. Also possibly contributing to the problem is the road surface. I have been running on one side of the canted road, which puts stress on that side of my body. I have to start running in the center to avoid the slope.
