Run 9, 2009
It was not a great start to my marathon training as I failed to finish because the weather gods were angry. I had no problem with maintaining my pace on the way into Devon, but on the way back, around the 11 km mark I ran into a nasty wind that slammed into me and practically froze me in place. My muscles began seizing up with the wind chill, my chest was sore from trying to breath into that icy wind and my cracked rib was not at all happy with the extra breathing effort as I tried to maintain the pace.
My PowerAde, which was about 2/3 full, froze into a thick slurry. I had to call in the extraction team. I had had enough.
The extraction team, consisting of Marilyn, proceeded to make me some hot chocolate. No one knows how to pamper like she does.
So this run is now history. The training will go on just as if I had actually completed that run. There’s no other way to do it, is there?
