Karate 106
We explored some stretching and core exercises today before we moved on to basics. We practiced the x pattern with each one of us suggesting a combination of moves. After that we pulled out some mats so we could practice punching and kicking with full force. It is so much different when you have an actual target and not afraid to hit it hard. We practiced punching, all the kicks, and also shutos. It was a most interesting and enjoyable class. Sensei Mike did a good job. At home I will be practicing the few items I am a bit rusty on for grading to my blue belt. That would be the kihon kumite and yakushoku. I will also be practicing with my tonfa and my bow, now that summer is here and I can do it outside where there is more room.

Declaration of Human Sovereignty
I no longer agree with, nor support this declaration. (Due to a recent comment, I insert this: I am not the author of this document. Although I support the idea of a declaration of human sovereignty, I do not necessarily believe in the existence of aliens nor in the accusations as written in this document). I do not believe in a God, nor in a creator in the religious sense, but I do believe in a morality which preserves the freedom and dignity of individuals. I would change a great deal of the text in this document as it accuses without evidence. I would further delete or change the concept of ownership of resources or property because this document merely expands our tribal and territorial barbarity … Continue reading

Karate 105
After a break of 3 or 4 lessons where I focused more on the marathon, today was my first day back. Still not fully recovered from the marathon, but almost. We got a late start so the warm-up was short. We did katas, then in the second half we practiced the first three of five kihon kata for the tonfa.

Run 45 – Calgary Marathon
MM and I headed out to Calgary Saturday morning. We ran a few errands there, then checked into our hotel room before going to Karen Cooksley’s for a pre-marathon supper. While there we met Sarah and Todd. Unfortunately, Dawn could not make it, but I got to see her at the race the next morning. I only got about 5 hours of sleep that night. We got up at 4 AM just to suck back some coffee, eat breakfast and sort everything out. We parked at the zoo and walked to the start line in the cool morning air. The weather was sunny and warm (eventually) but not too hot. I got to chat briefly with busy as a bee Dawn, and she took my photo at the start line too. I felt pretty good at the start of the race. My pace hovered somewhere between 7 and 8 minutes … Continue reading
