Karate 114

Tonight is Bo night, which means I have to brush up on my Shiramatsu No Kon. But what I really want to do is sleep. Well I did not sleep but did my duty and went over what I remember about the Bo.

Ok, so I just got back from class and it turns out some people had to cancel and there was no Bo training tonight. But during the break I practiced my Shiramatsu No Kon. No sparring tonight but we did get to go over Seru today as well as Pinan Yondan, which is the next new kata for us as blue belts. We still have not been awarded our belts yet so we still wear green. But I was glad to learn a new kata with new moves and techniques I had seen a lot but never tried.

Next class is next Monday night. We are going to be handling Sai for the first time. These are three pronged weapons with possibly an agricultural origin from Okinawan karate. They have a short dagger-like central prong about a foot or so long and two shorter prongs either side of the central one kind of like some sort of demented fork. One is held in each hand.

I just love having that extra long break during the week. No karate on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday! That’s a long break. So tomorrow I do another training run. I don’t have anything to train for until my half marathon in the fall, so it’s just maintenance for now and running a two more 14 or 16 km trail races.
