Kicks take a lot of effort, and for me I can do them fairly well the first few reps but then I get tired and sloppy and I can’t do them as well anymore, to the point where it looks like I’m not even trying. But it’s just because I am so stressed all the time – I mean stressed physically with the running training that never lets me heal 100% between workouts, whether running or karate.
Having said that, there is definitely an upward trend in that I am improving, I am getting better even though I am always going to karate with sore muscles due to running hard between classes. So that’s good. Today seemed unusually hot because my feet wanted to stick to the floor, and when you pivot during kicks or kata, there is a lot of friction and the danger of blisters and ripping of the skin off the balls of your feet. (Sound familiar, Jo?). Of course, normally I can be very light on my feet and just sort of glide along feeling the floor with your feet, but when your entire weight is on one foot while you are spinning around for a side thrust or roundhouse kick, then ouch. Having sweaty sticky feet can be great for gripping the floor as long as it’s not too wet, but it hurts like hell if your foot rotates into a kick but your skin just doesn’t feel like rotating along with your foot. Eventually, I am told, I will develop more calluses on my feet.
Woohoo!
But I have to say that such conditions are not that common and it must have been the combination of sticky floor wax plus the heat or whatever.
Anyway, as usual my legs got a real workout. Tomorrow I run, which is a hell of a lot easier.
