Run 70, 2009 …am I Disney movie material?

I’m thinking in this hot blasting 28 degree, 35 KPH cloudless wind, MM is going to drop me off 15 km from home to see if I can run back, like the proverbial abandoned dog that I am…will I find my way home? Will Disney be interested? Who can say? It was a scorcher today. Marilyn dropped me off 15 km from home on a lonely country road and I ran back home under some pretty uncomfortable environmental conditions what with the strong southerly hot wind and the cloudless sky and a very dry 28 degree heat. Starting out on my run at almost 2 PM ensured I was going to be hot and lose a lot of water. I was and I did. My pre-run weight was 174.5 and my post run weight was 170 For about 800 meters I ran past some farmers who were swathing and combining … Continue reading

Run 69, 2009

Today’s run was a bit slow. It was supposed to be a speed run but turned out not. I ran the same old route of 11.15 km in 1:21:55 for a 7:21 pace. Better luck next time.

Run 68, 2009 …broken glass burns my @@@…

Another wild and wacky day’s run today in that I was dodging a whole lot of people who were out walking the trails of the Clifford E. Lee Bird Sanctuary. I am doing two loops of that trail these days as I ramp up for the half marathon. The trail portion is only 2.5 km but the total loop is 3 km. I run from my house and so the total distance is 14.3 km including the two trail loops. Normally I only run one loop for a total of 11.15 km. Anyway I had to pause my run as I came to the entrance of my driveway and the country road. (My driveway is 400 meters, or 1/4 mile long). Some yahoo neighbors had a beer party last night and they were drinking and driving motorcycles all night long. I discovered one of these yahoos had smashed a glass … Continue reading

Run 67, 2009 …into the wind

I’ve just logged my 942 nd kilometer this year. With winds at 35 kph gusting to 56 kilometers per hour and a largely overcast temperature of 20 degrees Celsius today’s 14.3 kilometer run was like being in a roller coaster. Running with the wind was a breeze (ha ha) and I literally felt like I was floating, but running against the wind was pretty much like running up river. Slow like, real slow. Leaves, twigs, and debris everywhere. I notice many leaves starting to turn yellow with the fall coming on and the heat stress brought on by not enough moisture from rain. The understory in the woods on the trail portion of my run definitely looks like early fall. The sarsaparilla (common name of a local short broad leafed plant) leaves are all yellow fall colors. It’s like it happened overnight! Last time I ran this trail was only 8 … Continue reading
