Run 44, 2010 …back from a very bad week…
For about 8 days I could not run due to severe muscle cramps on the right side of my neck, arm, shoulder, and back. I had to miss my last 21 km long run at the start of my taper last Sunday and I could barely walk let alone run for a few days. I slept a lot and took muscle relaxants, while still trying to move and stretch it out. I hate taking the prescription muscle relaxants because they just put you to sleep and make you feel really groggy and unable to move much. I’m pretty sure that a big strong guy like me was felled by a mere mouse. A computer mouse. I am now using my left hand to mouse with. I spend a lot of time moving computer mice around since my business is computers and fixing them…sounds pretty strange doesn’t it? Even the tiniest … Continue reading

Run 41, 2010 …32 km bites the dust, now it’s taper time!
Thankfully, the gale force winds of the last two or three days died out for today’s scheduled long run. I had MM drop me off 32 km from home so that the last remaining wind would be at my back (10 kph E) and for the most part it worked except for a 6 km section going North on Highway 60 where the predicted Easterly winds suddenly decided to be Northerly and so I lost a lot of time running against the wind. Plus there was a long hill where the Highway 60 bridge crosses the North Saskatchewan River and the elevation change there totals about 50 meters going down and another 50 meters going back up out of the river valley. I gained time going down for sure, but on the way up I tried to maintain an average pace of 7 minutes per km but ended up going … Continue reading

Run 39, 2010 …the white horse, the geese…
Today’s 16 km run was interesting. For the second time in a week I was “chased” by a white horse who found it very interesting that a human would run by his pasture. He was just twenty or so feet from me on the other side of the fence as I ran by his pasture. He kept pace with me and I tried to run faster than him but of course he could easily keep up with me. When I slowed down, he slowed down, and when I sped up, he sped up. All the while he was eying me with what seemed to be great interest. This must be a strange horse since the other horses showed no interest in me at all. So the weather forecast said there would only be a 5 kph wind but it lied and I found myself battling a really strong wind for … Continue reading
