Run 87, 2010 …5peaks half marathon on the trails…
One could not ask for a more perfect day. The weather was warm yet not too hot, it was sunny and the model of a perfect fall day complete with an array of colorful leaves and crisp blue sky. Karen Cooksley, one of my running friends from Calgary came up to stay at our house, and to run with me. Karen and I got up early and car pooled down to the 5peaks race site in Devon’s North Saskatchewan River Valley. Marilyn did not come because she had to go to our first karate class of the season. Obviously, I decided not to go but to do this trail race instead. It turns out that our Saturday classes will now be 3 hours long and not 2 like last season. The third hour will be just for senior belts blue and up so I guess I will have to get … Continue reading

Your memories: Just who controls what?
Everyone knows about memory. Our brains store our memories for many obvious reasons. We rely on our memories to keep us out of trouble, and to recognize past patterns, whether those patterns are the familiar faces and actions of friends or enemies, or whether it is a set of instructions for avoiding death when dealing with potentially dangerous objects. So this is a message to those who are dwelling in the past, to those who cannot forgive, those who are wracked with guilt, and to those who have a penchant to act first then think later. Why are you letting your memories control your life? Memories are a tool. You are the one who is supposed to be in control, not the memory. If you let your memory take control, then every time you face the same old problems, you will allow your memory to present the same old solutions. … Continue reading

How to succeed in life: A message for those seeking truth.
Here is the message: Neither think nor do a negative thought and neither think a destructive thought nor contemplate a destructive act. That is the real secret to life. That was the short answer, given up front to show that I was not kidding and I mean what I say, and to save you time if you have no patience for learning. If you want a long answer, then read on for now begins a more lengthy explanation. I have a message for all of you. I have the answer to happiness, success and if such a thing even exists, a happy life after death. It is a closely guarded secret and I will neither bamboozle you with words, nor will I require you to join a cult, sign anything, or send me money. I am giving you back your freedom. I am placing you in control. I am concerned … Continue reading

Run 83, 2010 …the way of the trail…
I ran the same trail as my upcoming race today, along with others from the 5Peaks community at large. Kamren, the race director, had scheduled a pre-run today and since this coincided with my own plans for a trail and hill training session, I decided to go with the flow. About 40 people showed up and some ran one 7 km loop, others ran 2 loops, but I was the only one to run three loops for a total of 21 km with an average pace of 8:37. That is not quite true I guess, since the incredibly amazing Kamren and a few of his helpers ran the loop I do not know how many times, placing flags to guide us on the right path then collecting them after. Since I ran three loops, I did not attend the post run pot luck and when I finished everyone had already … Continue reading

The physics of David Wilcock et. al.
Those who do not know David Wilcock, Richard Hoagland, or any of a plethora of others who are currently challenging the status quo of science, politics, and physics will not understand this post. But it will not be difficult to Google these people if you are interested in knowing more about them. They have countless You Tube videos to view. I do not like to place labels on people, nor do I like to rigidly classify anything because human beings are complex and ever changing entities and the Universe simply will ridicule any attempt at rigid classification or stereotyping. But is it too convenient for the purposes of a brief discussion to label someone as a psychic, or a quack, or a pseudo scientist, or even a genius? People are much more complex than that and everyone, even me, at multiple points in their lives, can bear the labels of … Continue reading

Run 79, 2010 …running in the rain
I can easily remember running in a snow storm or a blizzard, but I can’t remember the last time I ran in the rain. And what a rain it was! It hit me about 1/3 of the way into my 11 km run today on the trails and it was not only a lengthy torrential downpour, it had some sharp needle like hail mixed in with the rain. What joy! What fun! I was ecstatic! It was exhilarating! The hail part stung a little and I am glad it was not very large hail. But the rain was so intense I could not see clearly because my eyes were just drenched. I was soaked. Even my wet bits were wet. The trail I was running on had so much water running down it, it was exactly as if I were running through a creek upstream. To use a cliche, I … Continue reading
