Run 92, 2011…how long is a recovery period?
I think it is interesting to note how I am reacting to regaining my level of fitness after my protracted illness and other circumstances which kept me from running for such a long time. For the record, I did no running for 42 days, then I did one pathetic 5 km ‘run’, rested two days, did another, then stopped again for 22 days to focus on getting ready for my grading in karate. Now we have a long 3 week break until classes start again I think January 10th? So I feel it is now time to begin running again and my first run 3 days ago was 5 km which took me around 46 minutes meaning I walked some of it. Run 91, 2011…I hate to eat and run, but…
It has been too long since I have run so today was a welcome back run for me. My last real run was a 43 km trail run October 16th. After a recovery period of no running but still going to karate classes, I came down with a nasty chest cold which put me out of commission ever since. Except for a few piddly little 5 km runs, I basically stopped all activity including karate. This cold (or whatever it was) just lingered forever it seemed. I felt really weak and had no energy. Before I knew it over 30 days had passed since I first came down with whatever it was and the end of karate class for this year was fast approaching which meant that I might miss my planned grading to brown belt.
