Concepts and controversies regarding evolution and paleontology. Applying these scientific concepts to the Universe as a whole, and discussions about creation science and other controversies.

The implications to Natural Philosophy of extraterrestrial life and its relationship to life on Earth.

Life on Earth has evolved from the simple to the complex. I will assume the reader is familiar with at least the basic concepts of Darwin’s theory and of evolution and biology in general. Darwin’s theory of natural selection accounts for the survival of successful life forms and for the increase in complexity resulting from such selective pressures as he describes. Such selective pressures allow for more and more complex organisms and symbiotic relationships that may or may not eventually evolve to be a single organism. For example, mitochondria are assumed to have been “eaten” whole by certain free cells and instead of being digested, the mitochondria survived in the host cell, obtaining nutrients from the cell while giving energy to the cell in return. This would be an example of how two different organisms combined to become one. Was this relationship a symbiotic one at first before the ultimate … Continue reading

Points to Ponder About the Flood…

This is the title of another article I feel I could comment on. The web site is: www.drdino.com/articles.php?spec=77/ and the author is Dr. Kent Hovind of the Creation Science Evangelism web site. I will be quoting from the article and trying my best to comment on it, but it will be hard for me because, as you all must know by now, I am a moron. A moron with an agenda. Note that the numbers in the quotes are from Hovind’s own list, so if you see a number missing, it’s because I did not quote that particular one. The arguments presented by Hovind are typically believed by most creationists. The author lists his own brief comments in a numbered list so I will start with the first quote from the author: 1. Over 250 Flood legends from all parts of the world have been found. Most have similarities to … Continue reading

Should we allow species “x” to survive?

A news headline that the tree line was moving north toward the arctic inspired this post. Comments raged between people who despise big oil for causing environmental meltdown, and those who say it’s just part of a natural process. Both sides pick factoids from the internet to support their dogmatism. Arguments about global warming aside, the fact is that humans have directly and indirectly caused massive ecosystem changes. The ecosystems of the planet will never be the same. We can never make North America, for example, like it was 300 years ago when buffalo roamed freely. We can never remove imported species from the Great Lakes. In the same way if the caribou are threatened by the tree line moving north they will likely not be able to survive as well as they survive now. The reason is that they are not free to move. Man is here to stop … Continue reading

Did Moses Lie?

There is a lot of apparently wrong information in the books supposedly authored by Moses. I want to assure readers that I wholly respect their beliefs and I am not writing this to belittle any faith or attack anyone. I just want to exercise my freedom of expression. All my life I have searched for meaning and for God. I still am. I do not want this to be a long story so I will say that I tried and studied a lot of faiths. I wavered many times between skepticism and mostly Christianity. I was an angry skeptic, then a fanatical Christian. There was a lot of pain and growing up. If you are over 50 like I am, fill in the blanks. It’s a long story. Eventually, Hal Lindsay led me to Bible prophecy and that was the beginning of my understanding of the Bible. Again I will … Continue reading
